I prefer to read fic all in one go but I think that as an author, it’s a benefit to post in pieces. It seems to give broader reach to the fic as a whole. Not great fics posted in bits are sadly often far more popular than long ones posted in one go.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. Stuff gets more momentum if it’s spread out - it makes sense. It’s my only large project that’s not *for* anything, so it’s something I could spread out, if I wanted. (It’ll, most likely, depend on timing since I’m going to be in the middle of nowhere for eight days in July with no internet connection.)

yeah, that’s what I’m working on now for the most part! I’m just not going to post anything until it’s done, because I go in spurts, like the first five days I was writing, I wrote like 16k, and then I went on vacation and everything turned to shit, and today I woke up with a migraine so I’ve been useless and doped up painkillers for the most part, and that’ll probably happen again at some point before I’m done so, holy run on sentence. what I mean is: yes, and it’s almost halfway done? I hope to post it before I go on my other family vacation the first week of july, but we’ll see.

(but speaking of that brings me to a question - I don’t think I’ve ever posted 40k at once and that’s what this is looking like it’s going to be, what do people prefer in that instance for readability? everything all at once? broken up into chapters and posted over a few days? a poll for science.)

I’ve been working on two longish fics that involve more gen stuff than I’m used to dealing with and HOLY SHIT gen writers do not get enough credit

AH I’M EXCITED!!!

^_^ I mean it can be hard to write ships - I’ve certainly complained about how hard it is for me to write Kurt/Blaine - but it can be just as hard to write gen. It’s different, but it can still be a challenge.

seriously, I think because I talk about Kurt/Blaine all the time, that’s infinitely easier for me - like, I was just telling someone yesterday I had to look up if Rory actually did still live with Brittany because when the hell was that last mentioned? and since I’m not immersed in any other ships, I have no compass for what other people think about certain characters. which, I guess in a way is good, but man I’m pretty sure I’m going to offend someone at some point.
